Welcome to the Jungle
Today is a day that all of us here at HRDQ have been anticipating with excitement: the launch of the completely revised, Anniversary Edition of Jungle Escape. If you’ve not heard of Jungle Escape, it’s our best-selling team-building game, and it has been in the top ten since it was first introduced 30 years ago.
Product improvement is one of HRDQ’s ongoing strategic objectives. As the head of the publishing team here at HRDQ, it also happens to be one of my personal goals. Jungle Escape is the latest product to benefit from this initiative, and I’m proud of everyone at HRDQ for their part in creating, what I believe to be, the best version of Jungle Escape we’ve ever released.
The seeds for the new edition were sown more than a year ago. We started by surveying those who know the game best, our clients. We asked them to rate the game’s components, tell us about how they really use it, what results they’ve achieved, and what we could do to enhance the learning experience. We were pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming positive response—and delighted with the many ideas and requests we received for improving the game.
What was the number one request? Facilitators asked for a more engaging introduction to the game. Given the technology available today, I’m not surprised by this suggestion. The original game provided a written script for the facilitator to read to the audience. Now, thanks to a new multimedia intro, trainers can dim the lights, hit play, and participants are immediately transported into the game. It’s certainly more dramatic, and it does an excellent job of immersing participants in the learning experience.
And there are plenty of other enhancements to the game:
- Starting with the packaging, Jungle Escape now comes with a custom backpack in keeping with the theme of the game. Not only does it look cool, it’s also eco-friendly, and can be used in a variety of ways. It could even be used as an incentive for the winning team. (Additional copies are available on our store for just this purpose.)
- We added some much-needed support for the facilitator. For trainers who may have fumbled with the assembly of the model helicopter, we included a step-by-step instructional video.
- Both the Facilitator and Participant Guides are redesigned and in now presented in glorious full color. A first for HRDQ.
- The jungle “mood” sounds have been updated, and we’re also introducing a “prop pack” later in the month (another popular client request) to help transform the training room into a tropical jungle.
We made lots of improvements. But I can tell you one thing we didn’t do. We didn’t change game’s underlying design. You know the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Clients tell us all the time that the game delivers a fun, effective, and rewarding team building experience. So Jungle Escape’s core activity remains the same–and we are confident we made the right decision.
Check out the new edition when you have a moment. We’re pleased with the results. And we hope our clients will be, too. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort!
